CRUSADER CHALLENGE #2

CRUSADER CHALLENGE #2: Write a flash fiction story (in any format) in 100 words or less.

The goldfish bowl teetered on the delicate pedestal as Mallory held her breath, praying the glass bowl wouldn’t crash to the floor. The commotion would definitely attract all of the pet store customers’ attention, including her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend.

Even though six months have passed since the painful split, Mallory wasn’t ready to face Aiden — by herself. She had no energy to fake a smile and pretend everything was fine. She just needed more time.

The goldfish bowl teetered safely back to the pedestal surface, and Mallory released her breath and quietly left the store.

    • Wow! Your flash fic was one of the few ones I read that made me feel for your character.

      Very well done.

Because of your unique take on the challenge, as well as your skill of composition, you progressed to my top five shortlist. Unfortunately, you were very narrowly beaten by two other compositions, which means that I couldn’t put you through to the finals for this challenge.

      Good luck for next time!

      🙂

  1. Ugh! Totally felt her pain! How sucktastic to run into your ex with his new girlfriend at a pet store of all places! Poor thing. They are probably ogling kittens & talking about getting one together while she just went there to try and cheer herself up by watching the puppies play. 😛 Lol! No, I haven’t been there before;) Haha! Good post. ☺

  2. The unresolved conflict is good and the vision of the goldfish bowl teetering, just like her emotions, is a powerful image. She pulls her balance together and keeps it safe. Good image for me.

  3. Ahh, a love story–sort of. I’d want to get the heck out of there too if my ex and his girlfriend were in the same store. A broken fish bowl on the floor would be humiliating.

    Well done.

  4. Hey Jennifer. Ooh, glad it didn’t fall off, that would have been awkward 😉

I had a problem with my linky link, so I think your entry’s been lost 😦 Can you pop back and re-link please, so everyone can find you. So sorry about that!

    Hugs,

    Rach
