I’m interrupting writing a current post right now because I had a thought: “Am I blogging too much?” During the past couple of weeks, I’ve been able to crank out a post about every other day — is that too much? About a year ago, I read an article about blogging. Bloggers don’t want to add posts every day because that may overwhelm readers. Understandable. But then again, bloggers shouldn’t wait too long to add another post and risk losing the reader. I know my core audience: my parents, my sisters, my sisters’ relatives (thank you, Emily), friends (you’re so awesome, Shonte!), and Charlie’s family (Amanda and Tom). I know they read my posts and look at the cute animal pictures.

Do I really need to worry about adequately spacing my posts? Am I blogging too much? Is adding a post every other day too much or too little? Do my readers really care? Should I care? I will admit that I’ve been on a roll with my blogging — my monthly resolutions, writing, my cats, etc. So much I want to share, and hopefully, my readers are interested in my posts. I blog because it’s a creative outlet for me. I’m not a power blogger — someone who adds three to four posts a day (craaaaazy). I don’t blog to make money — hmmmmm, maybe I should look into that strategy.

When I started my blog, I really didn’t read the how-to guides or tips. I’m not even sure how I stumbled on the one article providing tips about blogging. In the beginning, I figured, “How hard can this be? Write something insightful and thought provoking. Post it. Done.” The beginning was a little rough (lack of stories I wanted to share), but in time, I found my rhythm and my voice. I kept my blog simple. Easy to navigate. Easy to read — thank you, paragraphs and photos. Not sure if I’ve posted anything insightful or thought provoking, but I love writing posts or finding cute animal photos.

To be honest, the blog is for me. Thanks to some spam comments, I’m not utilizing enough tags and links and not doing more to make my blog the most powerful blog in the universe or attract more readers. At the moment, I really don’t care about all that. I blog about my life to avoid actually talking to my sisters on the phone. If they can keep up with my life and hilarious adventures through my blog, then they don’t need to pick up the phone and talk to me.  🙂  With all that said, do I really need to worry about blogging too much? Although the blog may be for me, I do care what my readers think. So, comments are welcome.  🙂

  1. I don’t think that every other day is too much – I’ve been trying to post 6 days a week lately!

What’s important, I think, is getting good content and good variety. If you look at what you’re blogging and think that the content is suffering, then maybe you should pull back and focus on quality, not quantity.
