My dad was set to throw out two vintage suitcases earlier this year, but I stopped him. One, I love the look of vintage suitcases. Two, with some nips and tucks here and there, the luggage would be perfect to store all of my craft items. Three, I saw an amazing idea on Pinterest on how to use vintage luggage.
Because my dad is such a nice guy, he stored the luggage for me until I could take them off his hands. According to him, the suitcases belonged to my mom’s father. However, he doesn’t believe my grandfather used them for travel that much — probably used them more for storage.
I love the idea of keeping certain items in the family. The luggage isn’t in the greatest condition, which in fine with me. I like the thought of having something from my grandpa. He passed away when I was a teen so I have some memories of him but not too many.
The green suitcase has seen better days after I cleaned it up a bit, but I still think it’s charming. And I love the old baggage claim tag on the tan suitcase, and I have no plans to cut it from the handle. I think the tag adds some old-fashion charm.
Hopefully, in the near future, I will have a chance to kind of refurbish or fix the suitcases to efficiently store my crafts, but for now, they’re storing some quillow projects and fabric I’ve been working on. I’m just happy to hold onto some family items for a little bit longer.
